Yeule: Too Dead Inside

Multidimensional cyber princess Yeule’s latest single is nothing short of a statement piece. After the touching acoustic fragility that accompanied the emo stylings of their last single, “Don’t Be Too Hard On Your Own Beauty”, and the surreal, demented imagery of its follow-up “Friendly Machine”, their fourth single from her upcoming album, “Too Dead Inside” is a tad more straight forward, but just as unsettlingly effective. A darkpop banger co-produced with Danny L Harle (!) with a grimy jungle-tinged edge, Yeule whispers over marching kicks and luminous synths, examining and fighting confessional self-hatred and internal demons (“Who the fuck wired my mind? / I’m trying to find something divine / An alien boy took all my might / Left in the dark, he took my light, / In love with skies of clear blue lies/ I can only try and try”). As they barrel towards February’s Glitch Princess (with an intriguing tracklist too - featuring Japanese trap star Tohji!), their followup to their masterful Bayonet Records debut Serotonin II, Yeule seems well on their way in building an immersive, image-defining work, a full circle journey from their shy netlabel origins on Zoom Lens, to a cosmic glitch queen of her own definition.

Glitch Princess is out on February 4.
